The clock has struck zero on the last quarter-final and the results are in: ‘Volt Kit’ takes down ‘Hypnokit’ to advance to the Semi-finals! In what turned out to be an absolute drubbing, the Volt Kit displayed its dominance by racking up over 70% of the vote, leaving a well-reviewed Hypnokit in its dust.

Here is where we stand now moving into the semi-final stage of the bracket:

But now, are officially down to the “business end” of the competition, as they say. In the semi-final, and to see who will be representing the home side of the bracket, we have #1 seed ‘Bronx Blue’ coming up against #2 seed ‘Racing Stripe’. The two heavy hitters of home finally meet, and now it’s time for the best primary kit in our history to be determined.

Not much else is left to be said for these two shirts, they are both clearly well liked among the NYCFC community, but appear to be so for different reasons. With ‘Racing Stripe’ comes a bit of flare, intrigue, and personality. It’s bolder, it’s more recognizable, and it makes more of a statement when worn both on or off the pitch.

But ‘Bronx Blue’ boasts the history that its competitor cannot. It deals more in the subtleties and memories rather than statements and stripes. And, while the details of its history may be lost to those who don’t follow the team and its triumphs, those aware are those who stand to adore the kit the most.

But at the end of the day, we’re talking about a pair of shirts. And while nostalgia never ceases to influence all aspects of sport, the spirit of the competition would suggest that we should vote on what the kit itself can control, which is simply how it looks and nothing more.
