Well, we’re finally here. The end of the road, the top of the mountain, the final destination, whatever you want to call it - we’ve arrived, and It’s time for the final of the NYCFC Kit Bracket.

The NYCFC Kit Bracket

And, after 9 kits, thousands of written words, hundreds of votes, and countless debates on twitter, we’ve ended up right where we’ve been all season: with our current 2022 kits. This whole time, I guess I could’ve just put up a single poll that read, “Home or Away Kit?” But where’s the fun in that?

But the idea that our fanbase’s favorite kits of all time are both being worn right now is actually pretty interesting. Do we happen to just live in a universe where the two nicest NYCFC kits ever arrived at the very same time? Or, is there more behind this story?

I’ve always felt that kits are beloved for reasons far deeper than just the colors, patterns, accents, etc. Think about iconic kits throughout footballing history: Manchester United’s 1999 home kit, Germany’s 1990 World Cup kit, Arsenal’s 2005 Home Kit, Argentina’s 1986 World Cup Kit - what do they have in common? Greatness.

Yes, they were all great shirts from a design standpoint, but there are probably hundreds of great looking jerseys worn each season that are quickly forgotten by the footballing world simply because not enough memories were made in them. But, because of United’s treble in ’99, Germany’s triumph in 1990, Thierry Henry’s dominance in ’05, and the legend of Diego Maradona, all of these kits possessed that little something extra that made them truly iconic.

So, is it any coincidence that, after our first MLS Cup win, we hold our current kits in the highest regard? “Bronx Blue” was the kit that lifted the cup, and the “Volt Kit” feels like it’s riding the waves made by what is an undeniably special team this season. We have trophies in our sights, winning fresh in our minds, and some fire kits on our backs this season. That feels like a dangerous combo to me.

So, whichever way you vote today, it feels like there are no wrong answers - just two special kits that represent one very special team. Thank you SO much to all that voted, re-tweeted, bantered and debated, as you were the ones that made this all happen.

Now, let's see who wins…
