The NYCFC Kit Bracket: Semi-final, Away Kits

We have officially named our first finalist. #1 seed, current home kit, and fan favorite, “Bronx Blue” has advanced to the NYCFC Kit Bracket final. In the end, it wasn’t much of a contest between Bronx Blue and its semi-finalist competitor, “Racing Stripe”, as the victor snatched 70% of the votes from its 2019 predecessor. Now, the classy kit has all the momentum going into the final - but who will be its opponent?

How Things Stand in the NYCFC Kit Bracket

That is what we set out to discover today, as we shift our focus to the away half of the bracket and the second semi-final. In this matchup, we have a classic battle of age and treachery vs. youth and skill. It’s our first ever road shirt, “Black Kit” against our newest jersey “Volt Kit”. In the words of Ian Darke, “You could not write a script like this”.

And it’s not just the “old vs new” aspect that's intriguing about this matchup - its the complete and total dichotomy of the designs themselves. With the Volt Kit, you have the brightest, loudest, and most "in your face" kit in NYCFC history and beyond. I challenge you to find a more electric kit in all of MLS - pun fully intended! It’s not just orange, it has a freakin’ lightning bolt down the side of it. Paired with orange shorts and orange socks, the kit is unapologetically obnoxious, and that’s just the way I like it.

But its opponent boats all the opposite. Its blackout from head-to-toe, and opts for subtle details to make it pop. When something becomes trendy, they say it “becomes the new black”, but you know what is always the new black? Blackout kits. Every team reverts to them at some point, and fans are usually hyped when it finally happens for their club. I can already imagine the excitement cultivated by the NYCFC community when we roll out our next black kit some day in the future, so let’s celebrate the one we already have - our very first road kit.
